Representative microscope images of Piranha solution cleaned (a) and PFDT molecules modified silicon surface (b) after immersion test in E. coli culture for 24 h. The population of E. coli cells attached on the Piranha solution cleaned silicon surface is much higher than that on the PFDT molecules modified silicon surface. We can therefore conclude that the PFDT coated silicon surface possesses fouling resistant properties regarding E. coli (E. coli cells were stained by methylene blue)
